The military settlement on the Bóbr river was developed from 1901 for the German army. Soviet troops took it in February 1945, and until 1992 Pstrąże was a closed garrison town with housing blocks, schools, shops, a cinema and a club. After the troops left in 1992 the town was abandoned; from 2016 its buildings were demolished for safety reasons.
