The Russian consulate in Gdańsk dates back to 1717; its earlier building on Długie Ogrody was lost during the Second World War. From 1946 the Soviet consulate occupied a villa at 15 Stefana Batorego Street in the Wrzeszcz district; in 1951 Poland and the USSR signed an agreement on the free use of the building. According to the land register, the buildings at 13 and 15 Batorego Street belong to the Polish State Treasury; the Russian side regards them as its property.
