A glider field between Stara Kopernia and Bożnów was rebuilt in 1936 into a German military airfield. After the Second World War the base was taken over by Soviet troops, who enlarged it until 1970. In July 1992 the Zielona Góra voivode handed the 457-hectare site with 220 buildings to the rural municipality of Żagań; the village of Tomaszowo has existed here since 1994.
