The barracks in Rokytnice had stood empty since September 1966, when a Czechoslovak engineer regiment left them. In autumn 1968 a Soviet motor rifle regiment moved in; the base covered 7.5 hectares, and more than 3,000 servicemen were stationed here in the 1980s. The regiment was withdrawn between October 1990 and March 1991, after which the barracks, depots and about 280 flats passed to civilian users.
