The villa in Prague's Bubeneč district was built in 1927–1930 to a design by architect Max Spielmann for the banker Friedrich Petschek. In 1945 Czechoslovak President Edvard Beneš presented the building, with its furnishings and adjacent structures, to the Soviet Union as a gift, and the Soviet embassy was housed there from that year. It is now the Embassy of Russia in the Czech Republic; the adjoining square was named after Boris Nemtsov in 2020 and the street section was renamed Ukrajinských hrdinů in 2022.
