The complex of the former Jaselské Barracks was used for almost 22 years by a tank regiment and an artillery regiment of the Soviet division headquartered in Bruntál; two housing blocks and a school were built within the barracks grounds. On 26 February 1990 the first train left Frenštát, marking the start of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Czechoslovakia, and in March 1990 the garrison was the first in the country to leave its town.
