A complex of nuclear plants in western Slovakia. In 1958 construction began on Czechoslovakia's first nuclear power plant, the A1 station with a Soviet-designed reactor built by Škoda (operated 1972–1977). Construction of the V1 plant, with two VVER-440 (V-230) reactors — the first units of this type outside the USSR — began in 1972; the two VVER-440 units of the V2 plant were connected to the grid in 1984 and 1985.
