The representative building of the branch of the State Bank of the Russian Empire opened in Łódź in 1886; it was built in 1905–1908 to designs by the architect Dawid Lande at what is now al. Kościuszki 14. The Kingdom of Poland was then part of the Russian Empire. The eclectic façade combines Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque forms, with Art Nouveau elements inside; the 10-metre-high banking hall was the largest among Łódź banks. After the First World War the building housed the Treasury Chamber, and since 1945 it has belonged to the National Bank of Poland.
