PolandБеловежа1894–1897Public buildings
The brick church was built in 1894–1897 next to the imperial hunting palace; its founder was Emperor Alexander III, and it was consecrated in January 1895. The iconostasis of Chinese porcelain was brought from St Petersburg as a gift of the emperor and is considered the only one of its kind in Poland. Białowieża was then part of the Grodno Governorate of the Russian Empire and is now in Poland. The building was damaged on 1 September 1939, restored in 1943 and has been in the register of monuments since 1969; after a major renovation it was reconsecrated on 14 July 2019.
