The Orthodox church in Warsaw's Praga district was built in 1867–1869 to a design by Nikolai Sychev, architect of the Holy Synod, for residents of the right-bank part of the city that had grown up around two railway stations; it was consecrated on 29 June 1869. At the time of construction Warsaw was part of the Russian Empire (Kingdom of Poland). Today it is the metropolitan cathedral of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
