1843–1846Public buildings
The masonry church in the Classical style was built in 1843–1846 on the site of an 18th-century wooden church; the design was approved in 1840 and the costs were borne by the state treasury. The foundation stone was laid in April 1843, and in 1846 the church was consecrated by Archbishop Joseph (Semashko) of Lithuania and Vilna. Białystok was then part of the Grodno Governorate of the Russian Empire and is now in Poland. Since 1951 it has been the cathedral of the Diocese of Białystok and Gdańsk of the Polish Orthodox Church; it has been in the register of monuments since 1957.
