The building was erected as a military Orthodox church in Warsaw, then part of the Kingdom of Poland within the Russian Empire. The monument register dates it to 1867; according to Polish Wikipedia, the literature also gives another dating — 1903–1906, when the Church of St Martinian was built for the Life Guards Uhlan Regiment to a design by Leonty Benois, with 70 of the 76 thousand roubles coming from a state grant. After 1915 the church was not in use; between the wars it was the garrison church of the 1st Chevau-léger Regiment, and since 1945 it has belonged to the Polish Catholic Church.
