The Orthodox church between Karczówkowska and Chęcińska Streets was built in 1902–1904 on the initiative of the Kielce Governorate authorities for soldiers of the 6th Rifle Regiment quartered in the nearby barracks; the main altar was consecrated on 14 May 1904. At that time Kielce was part of the Russian Empire (Kingdom of Poland). In 1925 the building was handed over to the Kielce garrison of the Polish Army, adapted for Catholic worship and on 8 December 1926 dedicated as the garrison church. It has been on the register of monuments since 1976.
