The masonry Orthodox church was built in 1905 in a village then part of the Kingdom of Poland within the Russian Empire; according to Polish Wikipedia it was funded by the Moscow merchant Ivan Kovalevsky on the initiative of the Chełm Brotherhood of the Mother of God. The Orthodox parish was formed after 1875 in place of a Greek Catholic one; an Orthodox community existed here until 1945. After the Second World War the building was handed over to the Roman Catholic parish, which moved its services here from the former church in 1947.
