According to Polish Wikipedia, the brick church was built in 1900 as the Church of St Alexander Nevsky of the 5th Rifle Brigade stationed in Suwałki, a town of the Kingdom of Poland within the Russian Empire (the monument register dates the building to the mid-19th century). After 1918 the building passed to the Catholics and from 1923 was used by the military chaplaincy; it was rebuilt at that time. In 1944 the main tower was blown up, and in the 1958 rebuilding it was replaced by two new towers at the corners of the façade.
