The masonry church in the Byzantine style was built by the Orthodox parish on the site of a dismantled wooden Uniate church in a village then part of the Kingdom of Poland within the Russian Empire. The website of the Diocese of Drohiczyn and the monument register date the construction to 1875, Polish Wikipedia to 1880–1883. Since 1 January 1947 the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Anthony of Padua has been active in Gnojno; the building serves as its church.
