The building was erected as an Orthodox garrison church in Skierniewice, then part of the Kingdom of Poland within the Russian Empire; according to Polish Wikipedia, the church of the Tobolsk Infantry Regiment was begun in 1899 and consecrated in 1903 (the monument register dates the building to the mid-19th century). In the 1930s, on the initiative of the military chaplain Andrzej Kamiński, it was rebuilt into a Roman Catholic garrison church, with a southern section — today's main nave — added. It is entered in the monument register of Łódź Voivodeship (No. 861 of 30 January 1992) as an Orthodox church, now the Garrison Church of the Assumption.
