The Orthodox church was built in 1904–1906 on the grounds of the hospital at Tworki near Warsaw for its staff; Warsaw Governorate was then part of the Kingdom of Poland within the Russian Empire. In 1915 the furnishings were removed when the hospital was evacuated. In 1927 the interior was adapted as a Catholic chapel, consecrated on 30 April 1930; the building remains the hospital Church of the Transfiguration.
