The Wedding Palace opened on 14 June 1976 as a gift from the Soviet Union to Mongolian youth; the decision was announced in 1974 during Leonid Brezhnev's visit. The building was erected by builders of Soviet General Construction Trust No. 2 to a design by Mongolian architects. It remains the main venue for marriage registration in the Mongolian capital.
