The mansion at 204 Avenida José Vasconcelos stands on the site of the main house of the Santa Catarina del Arenal hacienda, whose nickname (La Condesa) gave its name to the surrounding district. In 1911 the Gómez de Parada family demolished the colonial structure and built the present two-storey H-plan house in an English eclectic style. It was later rented by the Brazilian embassy, and in 1942 the mansion was sold to the Soviet Union. Since 1991 it has housed the embassy of the Russian Federation.
