The military airfield near Keszthely received a hard surface in 1950. In 1961 the Hungarian air regiment based here was moved to Pápa and the airfield was taken over by a Soviet fighter regiment; up to 45 aircraft were permanently stationed at the 400-hectare base. The last Soviet unit left the base in autumn 1990 and the site was taken over by the Hungarian Defence Forces.

Военный аэродром близ Кестхея получил твёрдое покрытие в 1950 году. В 1961 году базировавшийся здесь венгерский авиаполк был переведён в Папу, и аэродром занял советский истребительный авиаполк; на базе площадью 400 гектаров постоянно находилось до 45 самолётов. Последняя советская часть покинула базу осенью 1990 года, и территорию приняла Венгерская армия.
