The grass airfield was laid out in the 1940s; after the Second World War it was Hungarian and in the early 1950s received a new concrete runway for jet aircraft. From 1956 to 1991 the airfield was used by Soviet aviation; concrete aircraft shelters were built here in the 1970s. In early May 1991 the base was returned to the Hungarian side.
