The military airfield between Kalocsa, Foktő and Uszód was completed by 1952 for Hungarian aviation. In autumn 1957 units of the Soviet air force moved in and later enlarged and modernised the airfield; from 1970 a helicopter regiment was based here. After the withdrawal of the Soviet troops in the early 1990s the site was taken over by the town of Kalocsa and the municipalities of Foktő and Uszód.
