The Altes Lager military town near Jüterbog and its airfield were used by the German air force until 1945 and then, until 1994, by Soviet and later Russian aviation. From 1953 to 1994 it was the base of the 833rd Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 16th Air Army. After the withdrawal the officers' mess was restored as a cultural centre, and large parts of the airfield are now covered by solar power plants.
