Two barracks complexes beside the Jungfernsee lake on Nedlitzer Strasse in Potsdam were built in the mid-1930s for signals and artillery units. After 1945 the complex, known as the Graue Kasernen, was used by Soviet and then Russian forces; in 1991 the site was handed over to the Federal Republic. The barracks stood empty for several years and were demolished by a new owner soon after 2000; the Campus am Jungfernsee quarter with housing and offices has been built in their place.
