On 2 May 1945 the peninsula was handed over to Soviet forces without fighting, and in 1949 it became a Soviet garrison, home to up to 3,000 servicemen and family members at a time. The last large exercise took place in September 1992, the garrison was officially seen off in October 1993, and the site was cleared by 1994. In 1998 the peninsula was sold to the Fundus investment group.
