The Rote Kaserne (Red Barracks) on Nedlitzer Straße in Potsdam was built in 1892–1895 for the Prussian army. After 1945 it was taken over by the Soviet Army: it housed the 34th Artillery Division of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany and was known as the Potsdam-Nedlitz barracks. After the withdrawal in 1993 the buildings stood empty; the complex has been a protected monument since 1999 and has been converted to housing.
