The barracks in the Dresden district of Übigau were built in 1913–1914 for signal troops. In May 1945 they were taken over by a Soviet pontoon-bridge unit; according to the district chronicle, the troops left in spring 1992. In 1997 part of the site was bought by the German Red Cross and by the City of Dresden, which built a fire station here; in 2002–2004 several blocks were demolished for a car dealership and a garden centre. The surviving listed blocks on Klingerstrasse were being converted into housing in 2019.
