The barracks in Zaschendorf were built in 1912–1914 for a Saxon rifle battalion, but with the outbreak of the First World War they became a reserve hospital; later the state police school worked here, and from 1935 a signals unit was housed in them. After the Second World War the complex was used by Soviet troops — until 1990 or 1992, depending on the source. The site then became part of the Meissen-Ost industrial estate: one building was converted for the road authority and another, in 2002–2004, for the Meissen tax office. Four barrack blocks are listed cultural monuments of Saxony.
