The Prince George Barracks by Königsbrück railway station were built in 1893–1895 for a horse-artillery battalion of the Saxon army; a commandant's office building was added in 1914–1916. After the Second World War the town's military facilities were taken over by Soviet troops, who stayed until 1992. In 2003 the state of Saxony auctioned the barracks for demolition; the main blocks were pulled down between April and August 2005, and in December 2009 a solar park went into operation on the site. The commandant's office building and the water tower survive and are listed monuments.
