The barracks on Pappelallee beside the former Bornstedter Feld drill ground were built from 1935 for a battalion of an infantry regiment. After the Second World War they were taken over by Soviet forces — artillery units were stationed here and adapted the complex to their needs; until they left in the early 1990s the site was closed to the public. In 1994 the first departments of Potsdam University of Applied Sciences moved into four renovated blocks, and since summer 2017 all its students have studied on this campus.
