The Königstor Barracks, the largest of Neuruppin's military buildings, was erected in 1880–1883 for an infantry battalion; from 1920 it housed the tax office and flats for officials. After the Second World War the building was used by the Soviet Army; its departure in 1991 ended Neuruppin's history as a garrison town. Restoration began in 1994, and in 1997–2002 the building was fitted out as a justice centre: the regional court and the public prosecutor's office moved in in 2002.
