The barracks between the Kroch housing estate and today's Stadion des Friedens in the north of Leipzig was built in 1934–1935 in ten and a half months; from 1937 it housed signals units. After the Second World War the complex was taken over by the Soviet Army, which enlarged it and used it until 1992. According to the City of Leipzig, the site of about 14 hectares is bounded by Max-Liebermann-Strasse to the south and Bremer Strasse to the west; most of it lay unused after the withdrawal. Coordinates: the site east of Bremer Strasse (OpenStreetMap landuse=brownfield, way 396633683).
