The hospital complex in the Ore Mountains was built from 1950 within ten months as a hospital for the miners and staff of the uranium-mining company Wismut, at that time a Soviet joint-stock company; it opened in May 1951 and is regarded as the first new hospital building in the GDR. The main block, about 150 metres long, has a symmetrical curved plan. On 1 February 1991 the hospital was taken over by Schwarzenberg district and today operates as Kliniken Erlabrunn. The historic buildings are listed monuments and an associated site of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region World Heritage property.
