Tutow airfield, built in the 1930s as a flying-school base, was taken by the Red Army on 30 April 1945; its military installations were then dismantled. In the early 1950s a 2,100-metre concrete runway was built, and in the 1980s the airfield passed entirely to the Soviet air force: in 1983–1987 a housing estate with a school and sports hall was built on the site. After the Russian forces left in 1993, the housing estate was taken over and renovated by the municipality of Tutow.
