GermanyПерлеберг1945–1992Military sites
The airfield south-west of Perleberg was expanded from 1934 as an air base with a flying school. After the Second World War the site was taken over by Soviet forces: aviation units were based here until 1949, then the grounds passed to ground units, and from 1952 the field was kept as a reserve airfield; the housing area was enlarged in the late 1950s, in 1970–1971 and in 1988–1989. According to the town chronicle, the last units left the Perleberg garrison in 1992. The site passed into federal ownership, the dilapidated buildings were demolished in the 2000s and in 2020–2021; the flying field has been used by glider pilots since 1997.
