The small Brand airfield, built in 1938, passed to the Soviet air force in 1950; a 2,500-metre concrete runway was built in 1950–1951. Front-line aviation units were based here until the early 1990s, and in 1992 the airfield was handed over to the German federal property administration. In 1998 the site was bought by CargoLifter, which built an airship hangar; since December 2004 the hangar has housed the Tropical Islands resort.
Tropical Islands.
