The buildings of the boys' and girls' commercial schools were erected by the Chinese Eastern Railway on Bolshoi Prospekt (now 55 Xidazhi Street) to a design by architect K. Kh. Denisov; construction began in 1903 and classes opened in 1906. The buildings are in the Art Nouveau style. They later housed the library of the Harbin Institute of Technology and now accommodate the institute's affiliated school; the building is a protected historic structure of the city.
