A single-track railway tunnel 3,077 metres long under the Greater Khingan range on the western line of the Chinese Eastern Railway. Excavation began in 1900 after surveys by the engineer Bocharov, was interrupted in summer 1900 and resumed in March 1901; the headings met on 20 October 1902 and traffic opened in 1904. A two-kilometre spiral loop approached the eastern portal to ease the gradient; a second bore was opened alongside in 1991.
