The three-storey building was erected in 1853–1858 as a cadet institute under the military engineer Sigismund von Malinowski and later served as barracks and a military school. In 1938–1945 the complex was used by the Wehrmacht, and then until 1955 it housed Soviet troops. The buildings were thoroughly renovated in 1955–1959, Austrian army units have served here since 1957, and in 1967 the barracks were named after Saint Martin.
