According to the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, a house-building plant was set up in Kabul with Soviet assistance and large-panel housing construction was carried out; the plant, given to Afghanistan as a gift in 1965, produced panels for four micro-districts. The district remains residential; the flats belong to Afghan owners.
