The Druzhba multipurpose sports hall in Luzhniki (1979) was built for the 1980 Olympics. Its folded reinforced-concrete shell rests on splayed "legs" of a structure designed by the engineer N. Kancheli; for its unusual silhouette the building was nicknamed the "crab" and the "turtle." It is one of the boldest engineering images of late-Soviet architecture.
