The world's first all-welded bridge across the Dnieper, opened in 1953 to a design by the engineer Yevgeny Paton. It was assembled from 264 identical blocks with all welds made by automatic welding; its length is about 1,543 metres. It was the largest all-welded bridge in Europe of its time.
