A memorial on the ridge where, in May 1944, the decisive battles for the liberation of the city took place. At the centre of the ensemble are the granite-faced Obelisk of Glory, 26 metres high, and the diorama "The Storming of Sapun-Gora on 7 May 1944." In 1970 an Eternal Flame was lit by the obelisk.

The Sevastopol City Council executive committee decision of 6 September 1958 allocated 800,000 rubles for the diorama component of the memorial complex: 350,000 rubles for the building and 450,000 rubles for the painted canvas.
