USSRЕреван1969–1971Public buildingsBrutalism
A two-tier stadium opened in 1971 to a design by Koryun Hakobyan and Gurgen Musheghyan with the engineer Eduard Tosunyan. The structure is set into the slope of the Hrazdan River gorge and resembles a giant crater in harmony with the landscape. The authors were awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR.

Construction cost

1971 prices
English Wikipedia explicitly states "A total amount of 5 million rubles was allocated for the project." This is the only explicit published cost figure found across multiple searches in Russian and English. The stadium was completed in 1971, so post-1961 rubles apply. Construction was also supported financially by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. No contradicting figures were found in other sources.
