The building at 105 South 19th Street was erected for a Protestant congregation: its date stones read 1862 and 1886. In 1917 it became home to the Russian Orthodox parish of SS. Peter and Paul, established in 1916. In the early 1930s the parish lost the building for economic reasons, and in January 1943 it regained the church and parish house; the church was then renamed in honour of the Theotokos. The first pastor, Archimandrite Seraphim (Oblinantseff), painted most of the icons of the iconostasis.
