The brick church with a central bell tower and onion domes was built in 1918 at 308 Quemahoning Street for Orthodox miners of Boswell, a coal town built from 1901 by the Merchants Coal Company. The adjacent two-storey brick house served as the rectory. The church lies within the Boswell Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 3 June 1994.
The website of the Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania (viewed October 2026) lists the church as a satellite parish attached to Holy Assumption Church in Central City, with services on an irregular schedule.
