In 1918 Archbishop Alexander (Nemolovsky) authorized a group of Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants to establish the parish of SS. Peter and Paul in Bayonne; on 22 December 1922 the parish was incorporated in the State of New Jersey. A month later a house on West 27th Street and two lots on West 28th Street were bought; the first church was completed in September 1924. The present building in the Russo-Byzantine style was erected from 1936 to May 1938. The church holds the iconostasis from St. Platon Seminary, which closed in 1923.
