The parish dates from 1912–1913, when a Russian brotherhood bought and converted a Protestant church in lower Homestead. In 1941 the whole neighbourhood was cleared for the expansion of the steel works; with the 75,000 dollars received the parish bought a lot with a house on 15th Avenue. The design of the brick church was reported in December 1949 (architect Thomas Pringle; historian James D. Van Trump attributed the design to R. N. Verbrowski), and Andrey Avinoff took part in the design; services were held in the basement until completion, and the church was consecrated in 1951.
