The parish on North Main Street was founded in 1892 by Fr. Alexis Toth, later canonised by the Orthodox Church in America; the broadcaster WBRE also gives 1892 as the year the church was built. The cathedral belonged to the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania of the Orthodox Church in America. In 2024 the parish decided to close because of declining attendance and the cost of repairs; the building was offered for sale and was demolished in October 2025.
